What We Do

Through research, policy development, and training and technical assistance, the Racial and Ethnic Disparities (RED) team at American University (AU) is committed to providing leadership in the criminal legal system and building capacity to address emerging issues that allow for innovation. Currently, faculty and staff are leading several initiatives related to identifying and rectifying racial and ethnic disparities (RED) in treatment courts across the country. The RED team is dedicated to creating a culture where everyone feels empowered, heard, and valued.

Research

A sound research design is applied to projects with the intent to use research findings to improve practices and policies.

Training & Technical Assistance

Resource Development

Resources such as webinars, implementation guides, issue briefs, and infographics are developed and disseminated to practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and community members.

RED Program Assessment Tool

The Racial and Ethnic Disparities (RED) Program Assessment Tool (RED tool) is free resource designed to help treatment court professionals identify and examine areas where racial and ethnic disparities exist in their programs.
